I was looking around on YouTube and found this interview with Tom Werner from SunPower. SunPower and OptiSolar recently forged a deal with PG&E to install 800MW of solar for the utility. During the interview, Werner is asked about the inability to store solar energy. In his response he noted that electricity generated from PV solar occurs during times of peak demand.
In the not so distant future, effective storage for renewable energy will be available. For now, the amount of electricity generated from renewables can supplement the electric grid and the need for storage is less critical.
